The British Library(BL) is the national library of the United Kingdom and gives access to the world’s most comprehensive research collection. It provides information services to academic, business, research and scientific communities.

Its collection of over 170 million items includes artefacts from every age of written civilisation. The BL keeps the nation’s archive of printed and digital publications, adding around three million new items to our collection every year.

It has many books, but we have so much more. Its London and Yorkshire sites have everything from newspapers to sound recordings, patents, prints and drawings, maps and manuscripts.

Digital Collections:Gallica is the digital library for online users of the Bibliothèque nationale de France and its partners. It was established in October 1997. Today it has more than 6 million digitized materials of various types: books, magazines, newspapers, photographs, cartoons, drawings, prints, posters, maps, manuscripts, antique coins, scores, theater costumes and sets, audio and video materials. All library materials are freely available.

There are 2 access methods, paid and unpaid.

Free access: The visitors can read and download online self-built resources for free through the Gallica homepage.

Austrian National Library

As the central academic library of the Republic of Austria, the Austrian National Library looks back to a history rich in tradition going as far as the 14th century. It is a living bridge between the rich heritage of the past and the future-oriented demands of a modern information society.

As a service-oriented information centre, the Austrian National Library offers its users access and professional advice on its own holdings (over 10.9 million objects) and also on international data pools. It also accepts commissions on scientific research, and operates documentation centres and service facilities, for example on literature specifically devoted to women’s studies. Since the beginning of the digital age, a steadily increasing number of services have been handled online via the website of the Austrian National Library.

As a result of the Austrian Media Act, the Austrian National Library is the only library in the country to receive copies of all publications appearing in Austria, including those from offline media and dissertations approved by Austrian universities, as per the Universities Act. At the same time, these obligatory items serve as the basis for publication of the Austrian Bibliography.

Founded in 1856 and incorporated as a nonprofit organization under the laws of the state of Illinois in 1857, the Chicago Historical Society (CHS) is the city’s oldest cultural institution and home to millions of historical objects, images, and documents. Nationally recognized for its holdings, CHS is devoted to collecting, interpreting, and presenting the rich multicultural history of Chicago, as well as selected areas of American history. In 2006, following an extensive building renovation and rebranding initiative, CHS created a new public identity for itself as the Chicago History Museum (CHM), which operates as the building and institutional public presence under the auspices and legal oversight of CHS.

World’s Columbian Exposition and A Century of Progress, International Exposition, 1933-34 are also included in the collection. The museum welcomes scholars, students, filmmakers, journalists and the general public to come to visit and use the collection, including prints, photographs, archival manuscripts, architectural drawings and records, books, and other published materials.

The Museum of History & Industry (MOHAI) is a history museum in the South Lake Union neighborhood of Seattle, Washington, United States. The State Library Victoria is the main library of the Australian state of Victoria. Located in Melbourne, it was established in 1854 as the Melbourne Public Library, making it Australia's oldest public library and one of the first free libraries in the world. The Museums Victoria Library collection was first established in the 1850s as a working collection for the Museum's curators, and has developed into one of the best collections of natural history books and journals in Australia.

Today, the library collection is located at Melbourne Museum and contains 40,000 titles, which includes around 1,000 titles that are considered to be rare due to one or a combination of factors, including: value; scarcity; aesthetic qualities; historic, scientific or institutional significance; fragility; or age. Arxiu Municipal Contemporani de Barcelona

The Contemporary Archives were set up as a result of a proposal to reorganise the Municipal Archives approved by Barcelona City Council in 1917. In recent years, there has been an increase in the records managed by the AMCB, not only due to the periodic incorporation of records from municipal agencies but also of those generated by the bodies responsible for organising major city projects, such as the 1888 Universal Exposition, 1929 International Exposition, 1992 Olympic Games, the Holding Olímpic SA and the 2004 Forum of Cultures.

Physical Collections: The Arxiu Municipal Contemporani de Barcelona preserves a variety of important documents of Barcelona’s city projects since the beginning of the 19th century, including the resources of the Universal Exhibition of Barcelona 1888 and International Exhibition of Barcelona 1929; it also has resources of 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games. The Barcelona Archives has collected systematic and comprehensive documents related to the Barcelona Expos, it includes the important meeting minutes of the organizers, major project materials, pavilion contracts, reports of the awards, summary statistics, pictures of the Expo Site, promotional resources, related publications, and so on.

After Ghent University was founded in 1817, books confiscated by the state during the French period were given to the university.

The library has evolved in recent years, focusing on decentralization and networking rather than a central facility. Some collections of books are to be found in the faculty libraries; but some books are conventionally gathered together in the University library.

The German National Library (German: Deutsche Nationalbibliothek (DNB)) is the central archival library and national bibliographic centre for the Federal Republic of Germany. The National Diet Library (NDL) (国立国会図書館, Kokuritsu Kokkai Toshokan) is the national library of Japan and among the largest libraries in the world. It was established in 1948 for the purpose of assisting members of the National Diet of Japan (国会, Kokkai) in researching matters of public policy.

As Japan's national library, the NDL collects copies of all publications published in Japan. There are about 500,000 ancient books with 6,000 rare ones, with the Chewangfu Music Book containing 1,600 written works on traditional opera and Chinese folk art songs, about 60,000 kinds of local literature with the total number of 160,000 volumes, more than 20,000 old disks covering traditional opera, Chinese folk art songs and music with precious ones on Peking opera, cross talk and pop songs。

Physical Collections: The library contains about 300 pieces of textual resources related to Expo, which are available in English, French, German, Chinese, and other languages.

The National Library of China (NLC) serves as the repository of the nation's publications, a national bibliographic center, a national center for preservation and conservation of ancient books, as well as the national museum of ancient books. The major responsibility of the NLC includes: the collection and preservation of domestic and foreign publications; national coordination of document preservation and conservation work; provision of information and reference services to the central government, national authorities, social organizations, and the general public; research in the theory of library sciences and development of librarianship, and guidance to other libraries in China; the fulfillment of its function in international cultural exchanges through participation in the activities of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) and other related international organizations, as well as the promotion of exchanges and cooperation with other libraries in China and abroad.

Physical Collections: The library contains 4 types of textual resources totaling to 2,200 pieces related to Expo, which are approximately 2,000 copies of comprehensive resources and professional resources of Expos, around 40 copies of the Milan Triennale, and about 200 copies of the World Horticultural Expositions, which are available in English, French, Spanish, Chinese, and other languages.

Digital Collections: The National Library of China’s “Wenjin” Search system integrates the bibliographic data of multiple institutions. It can find and search books, micro documentaries, papers, periodicals, and newspapers. There are over 30,000 pieces of resources related to Expo, including papers, periodicals, hard copies, and other forms of resources, the resources are mainly available in Chinese.

The National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan (the NLRK)was given special state and public significance as a particularly valuable cultural object of the Republic. The NLRK collections include 5.5 million publications in 100 languages of the world. Researchers are attracted by the collection of rare books and manuscripts. These number about 25 thousand volumes in the Kazak, Russian, Oriental and Western European languages from the eleventh to the eighteenth and the first half of the nineteenth centuries.
