WE Library under Construction

[Expo Periodicals]

Periodicals serve as a public record of our history. Expo periodicals reproduce and retell the glory of the events.

The WE Library has a collection of periodicals that span from Expo 1851 London to Expo 2010 Shanghai, including official journals published by Expo organizers, and folk periodicals released by social media. The issue cycle varies from daily to weekly and more. Different publishers, styles, countries, and eras bring diverse perspectives and multifarious styles to Expo periodicals. Until now, some of those journals still win readers' compliments, introduce humorous ideas, and spark inspiration.

Official journals published by Expo organizers systematically record the preparation and implementation process of Expos, focus on the sound work behind the scenes, and supplement details which have been skipped in Expo schemes and reports. Folk periodicals released by social media capture hot topics and interesting stories of hosting cities. These periodicals also portrait the lifestyle of local people and details of the cities, outlining a vivid social background for the events. With these elaborate descriptions, Expos become a social event instead of an information silo.

The structure, content, expression, design, printing, and publication of the periodicals contain abundant information which can benefit studies in various disciplines, such as journalism, printing and publishing, international relations, exhibition and tourism, history, art design, and library information and archives.

The WE Library is organizing and processing the Expo periodicals and will gradually show them in interactive touch screens in the library, the Digital WE Libary, and following exhibitions. The Library welcomes readers when the collections are available to the public.

The official magazines and bound volumes of periodicals related to Expo 2010 Shanghai have been shelved and call for readers to come to the library.

Libraries, archives, and museums across the globe have digitized part of Expo periodicals.

This part of periodicals is open to the public and can be searched and found under the "external resources" of the library portal.
