  • Register as reader

    WE Library Reader Registration Measures

    The WE Library (hereinafter referred to as "Library") divides readers into professional readers and common readers. After completing the registration procedure, the reader can receive corresponding services as long as the account is valid.

      1. Common Readers
      (1) Intended readers: Persons above 14 years old can register as common readers by submitting the required information.
      (2) Reader Pass: For common readers who are able to use the WE Library WeChat mini-program(Only in Chinese), use the QR code in the mini-program as the Reader Pass. For those who are not able to use the mini-program, bring valid identity documents (including the ID card, passport, driving license, and military ID) to get the Day Pass at the Service Desk.

      (3) Validity period: Common reader accounts are permanently valid.

           (4) Visiting the library:All readers to WE Library should reserve avisit to the World Expo Museum first. For common readers, reservation to WELibrary is required. Please make a reservation on the library portal or LibraryWeChat mini-program.

           (5) Service: Reading open-stackbooks and periodicals; browsing digital resources via library E-Desks; usingthe discussion room, recalling borrowed books and requesting open-stack bookswith reservation in advance; and recommending a purchase.


      2. Professional Readers
      (1) Intended readers: Expo practitioners, researchers, and those who have the demand to read a large amount of Expo-related materials can register as professional readers.
      (2) Registration: Persons who want to become a professional reader should fill in the required information on the library portal, submit an identity document stamped by his/her employer, explain the reason why a professional reader account is necessary and the intended validity period of the account. After the application is approved by the Library, he/she can become a professional reader.
      (3) Loan privilege activation: Professional readers should pay a CNY1,000 deposit to activate the loan privileges. The WE Library provides a receipt after receiving the deposit and activates the loan privileges for the reader. When the professional reader account expires or the reader decides to cancel the loan privilege, the reader provides the deposit receipt, and the library should return the deposit and cancel the reader's loan privileges.
      (4) Validity and renewal: The default validity period of a professional reader account is one year. Readers can renew the account for another year one month before the account expires. When a professional reader account expires, it will be automatically transformed into a common reader account.

      (5) Reader Pass: For professional readers who are able to use the WE Library WeChat mini-program(Only in Chinese), use the QR code in the mini-program as the Professional Reader Pass. For those who are not able to use the mini-program, bring valid identity documents (including the ID card, passport, driving license, and military ID) to get the Professional Pass at the Service Desk.

           (6) Visiting the library:All readers to WE Library should reserve avisit to the World Expo Museum first. Professional readers can visit theLibrary during the opening hours without further reservation.

           (7) Service: Reading open-stackbooks and periodicals; browsing digital resources via library E-Desks; borrowingbooks open for circulation (readers with loan privileges); using the discussionroom, recalling borrowed books and requesting open-stack books and storagematerials with reservation in advance; and recommending a purchase.


  • Visit the library

    All readers to WE Library should reserve a visit to the World Expo Museum first.

    Professional readers can visit the Library during the opening hours without further reservation.

    For common readers, reservation to WE Library is required. Please make a reservation on the library portal or Library WeChat mini-program.

      Reservation channel 1: Library WeChat mini-program(Only in Chinese)
      1. Login with WeChat account:
      Search "WE Library" mini-program in WeChat, click "Me" to bind a reader account.
      2. Reserve a visit:
      Click "reserve a visit" on the homepage of the mini-program, view the opening days, and select a day and the time of your arrival for the visit. After the reservation is successful, readers can view the reservation record in the "my reservation" in the WE Library WeChat mini-program or the Personal Center on the library portal.
      3. Visit the library:
      On the day of the visit, use the QR code on the homepage of the mini-program as the Reader Pass, scan the QR code to pass the turnstile.

      Reservation channel 2: WE Library portal
      1. Reserve a visit
      View the opening days on the WE Library Portal, and click "reserve a visit" to select a day and the time of your arrival for the visit. If the reservation is successful, readers can view the reservation record in the "Personal Center" on the library portal or the WE Library WeChat mini-program.
      2. Visit the library

      On the day of the visit, please arrive on time. Readers who can use the WE Library WeChat mini-program use the QR code as the Reader Pass, and scan the QR code to pass the turnstile.

    Readers who cannot use the mini-program bring valid identity documents (including the passport, ID card, and military ID) to get the Day Pass at the Service Desk on the first floor. The Day Pass allows multiple entries within a day. Readers should return the Day Pass when they leave the library by the end of the day.


      Notes:
      1. Readers can cancel the reservation one day before the scheduled visiting day. Same-day cancellation is not allowed. A reader who does not pass the turnstile on the scheduled visiting time is recorded as a no-show. If a reader no-show three times in total, the reader cannot make another reservation in three months.

      2.A successful Reservation is available for multiple entries during the open hours of the scheduled visiting day, but late-arrival is not accepted.

           3.Due to a space limit, the WE Library will implement access control, stopping readers from entering the library, when the place is overcrowded, so as to provide readers with a comfortable reading environment. The reader flow status can be inquired on the library portal or WeChat mini-program. If the library is overcrowded, please cooperate with our staff and wait patiently. Thank you for your understanding and support.

  • General Policies and Rules


    In order to maintain a safe and welcoming environment for reading, learning, and other Library activities, The WE Library requires all readers, including visitors, to comply with our General Policies and Rules.

    1. Please dress neatly and keep your manners civilized and polite.
    2. Pets, selfie poles, tripods, aerial cameras, scooters, balance cars, food, colored sugary drinks and inflammable and explosive articles that may endanger public safety are not allowed to enter the hall.
    3. Smoking and open flame are prohibited in the WE Library.
    4. Please keep your personal belongings properly. If you need to deposit your belongings, please follow the provisions of the deposit service.
    5. Please do not use bags or other articles to occupy seats.
    6. Please keep quiet and do not make any unreasonable noise.
    7. Maintain the welcoming environment of the library.
    8. Maintain the hygiene in the library.
    9. Any kind of recording on Library premises requires the prior approval of the Library, and usually requires the approval of any person being photographed or recorded.
    10. Comply with other rules and regulations of the WE Library.
  • Documentation Inquiry and Reading
    Readers can go to the WE Library (hereinafter referred to as "Library")----Library portal----Resources to see our collections.
      If a reader needs to inquire about hard copy resources on open stacks, please go to the "Search" in the WE Library portal."
      Part of Expo resources and Comprehensive Collections have only one volume. These books are stored in the storage material library. Professional readers can apply the "request storage materials" service to read the specific book on the scheduled day.
      If a reader needs to access digital resources, please log into the "Digital WE Library" to search and read the materials.
      In addition to the WE Library, institutes in the Expo host countries, such as libraries, museums, and archives, have also collected a large number of Expo resources in various types and formats. Readers can access these collections via "external resources".
      Search suggestions: Due to the large time span and language diversity of Expo documentation, please refer to the "search suggestions" before starting to search a document.
  • Book Borrowing and Returning
      Staff Readers and Professional Readers with loan privileges can borrow books open for circulation.
      1. Scope of Circulation
      (1) Comprehensive, museology, and Expo collections, WEM publications,  BIE collections and Reference Books on the open stacks on the first and second floor are open for borrowing.
      (2) Periodicals on the first and second floor are for reading only and cannot be borrowed.
      (3) Books and materials on the first floor for display and promotion can be temporarily locked. During this period, the books and materials are for reading only and cannot be borrowed.
      (4) Storage materials in the documentation and archive library can only be requested and read by staff and professional readers on site. These materials cannot be borrowed.
      (5) The close stack books on the third floor can only be requested, read, and borrowed by staff.
      (6) If a reader needs to read, or borrow ancient books in the Library, please refer to the WEM Regulations on Collection Use, Loan, Storage, Viewing, and Inquiry.

      2. Circulation Rules
      (1) Borrowing and returning: Readers can borrow and return books on the self-service machines and Service Desk. A reader can borrow at most 10 volumes per time, with a loan period of one month.
      (2) Renewal: If a reader needs to renew a book, the reader should renew before the loan period is due. Each volume can be renewed twice with a renewal period of one month.
      (3) Recall: If a borrowed book is recalled by other readers, the reader who holds the book cannot renew the book.

      3. Methods of Compensation for Book and Material Loss and Damage
      (1) Book Loss
      1. Generally, the reader who loses a book should replace the lost book with another copy (with the same version, ISBN, and page number). The replaced book must be intact and without missing pages and markings. The reader also needs to pay CNY10 per volume as the document processing charge.
      2.If the replacement cannot be found, the compensation shall be calculated according to the following provisions:
       (1) Book materials published before 1990 shall be calculated as 10 times of the original value of fixed capital; if published after 1990 (including 1990), the book fee shall be calculated as 5 times of the original value of fixed capital;
       (2) Chinese/Foreign periodicals or multi-volume books: Three times the cost of the year-around volumes/the entire volumes as a fixed asset, the rest issues (volumes) should remain in the library.
       (3) Donated books or books acquired from other channels: The library and relevant departments will jointly confirm the cost of the book based on similar books and materials.
       (4) Compensation = Book cost + Processing charge (CNY10/volume)
       (5) (5) After the compensation is paid, the library will not accept the original book even if the reader finds it again.
       (2) Book Contamination and Damage
      1. Each page (sheet) of a book or periodical that is marked, outlined, cut, or stained by a reader costs CNY0.5.
      2.2. The Book Loss Compensation Article should be followed if the damage is severe. In addition, the reader also needs to pay an extra compensation of at least CNY5.
      (3) If any violation occurs, such as a reader failed to return a book on time or lost a book without paying a deposit, the library could suspend the reader's loan privilege.
  • Use of E-Desks

    WE Library E-Desks Use Instructions


    1. The WE Library E-Desks is for readers to read, study, and research only.

    2. Please use the devices gently. Please do not turn on/off the power of devices. Do not change the settings of computers without authorization. Do not randomly uninstall or install any applications. Do not use storage devices, such as mobile hard drives or USB flash drives, on E-Desks.

    3. Abidance by the articles in the Copyright Law of the People's Republic of China, readers are prohibited to infringe the rights of a copyright owner. If a reader needs to copy or use the high-precision resources in the Library, please contact the staff.

    4. When finish using the E-Desk, please log out all accounts before leaving the Library, so as to ensure account security.

    5. If device or Internet failure occurs, please contact the staff promptly.

    6. For those who violate the regulations mentioned above, the library will terminate their use of the E-Desks according to specific circumstances.

    7. The Library reserves the final rights of the interpretation of the rule.


  • Book the Discussion Room

    WE Library Discussion Room Use Instructions


    1.Reservation and renewal:

    (1) An applicant can make an application two weeks in advance and should submit thereservation to the platform one working day in advance. After the applicationis approved by the staff, the applicant can use the discussion room accordingto the application order. The application follows the come first, serve firstprinciple. If the applicant cannot attend, please cancel the appointment beforeit takes effect. The next appointment cannot be made before the end of theprevious use. On the day of use, all attendees must hold valid ID cards orreader cards, whilethe ID card of the applicant shall be kept with the WEM during the use.

    (2)Each discussion room can be used for four hours per time. An applicant canrenew the discussion room 15 minutes before the end of the scheduled useperiod. Each discussion room can be renewed once a day until the library isclosed.

    2.Use Rules

    (1) An applicant cannot use false information for application or registration. Theapplicant ID cannot be borrowed.

    (2)The application will be canceled if the applicant failed to arrive at thediscussion room 30 minutes after the scheduled time or the number of attendeesfailed to meet the lower limit.

    (3) The discussion room is for document inquiry, study, and discussion only. Itcannot be used for other paid services.

    (4)Please keep the room tidy and clean.

    (5) It is prohibited to move or add any device in the discussion room withoutpermission. If any document or device is damaged due to improper use, the userhas to pay the compensation according to relevant rules.

    (6)Please take your belongings with you when leaving the discussion room. Thelibrary is not responsible for keeping them. Please contact the staff afteruse. You can leave the discussion room when the venue and device are confirmedintact.

    (7)If the discussion room is unavailable for some reason, the library has theobligation to inform the applicant to stop using the discussion room or cancelthe reservation.

    (8)All readers in the discussion room are required to abide by the regulation. Ifany violation occurs, the library will stop the person's right to usediscussion rooms for three to six months according to specific circumstances.

    (9)The Library reserves thefinal rights of the interpretation of the rule.
